The former Prime Minister of Japan, Shinzo Abe, has been shot to death by a 41-year old man.

The former Prime Minister is said to have died after being shot twice in the streets during a campaign rally.

He was reportedly shot both on his back and right side of his neck, yesterday while he was presenting a speech in the city of Nara.

“Japan has lost a great prime minister, who dedicated his life to his country and worked to en sure order in the world,” confirmed French president Emmanuel Macron in a tweet.

Shinzo Abe served as Prime Minister of Japan and President of the Liberal Democratic Party from 2006 to 2007 and again from 2012 to 2020.

He was the longest-serving prime minister in Japanese history.

Shinzo dies at the age of 68.
