Shocking!
5-year-old allegedly raped by 61-year-old man in Bafia

Despite the recent outcry against rape and sexual violence in Cameroon, the cases remain on the rise.

One of the latest victims is a five-year-old girl who is yet to recover after she was violated on November 27 in Bafia, Centre Region.

The suspect, a 61-year-old man, reports say, took advantage of the kid when her aunt and elder brother, with whom she lives, went to fetch water.

Having found the 5-year-old child all alone, he is said to have taken advantage of her.

Reports quote the girl as saying the perpetrator said he had come for her, and would go on to force himself on her.

She further described other extreme sexual acts he performed on her, using his hand to ensure she couldn’t scream as she bled in pain.

The perpetrator is said to have fled the scene as the girl’s aunt returned home.

What has left many outraged is the fact that the suspect is said to, at the moment, be roaming free without any charges against him.

The victim’s aunt had taken her to the Gendarmerie brigade and then hospital where reports were filed on the girl’s situation.

The 61-year-old suspect would later be summoned and locked up at the Gendarmerie as investigations were opened.

Despite the evidence provided against him and court proceedings later initiated, he was released, and is to this day and to the surprise of many, a free man.

The suspect, it should be noted, has had several similar charges laid against him but has never been convicted for any, leaving victims’ families and the entire community fed up with the legal system and the actions of security officials.
