Social Democratic Front (SDF) denies claims of its militants resigning in Loum

The Social Democratic Front (SDF) has denied earlier reports about a mass resignation of its members in the Loum electoral district.

The party’s national communication secretary, Kejang Henry, released a press statement clarifying that there have been no resignations from any region.

He labeled the information as “gross misinformation with intentions to drag the party’s image through the mud.”

The SDF, grappling with controversies since the passing of its founder, particularly during the election of its new chairman, is now confronted with the aftermath of alleged resignations in Loum.

The party wasted no time in dispelling the rumours, identifying and accusing three dissident members—Hiddieu Merlin, Nkeck Jules, and Issa Alhadji – of being behind the false claims.

The press release stated, “This is done with malicious intentions by three dissident members of the party who are in conflict with the party’s constitution and internal rules and regulations.”

According to the party’s spokesperson, these members, who are councilors of the SDF-run Loum Council, had faced disciplinary actions for anti-party activities and were considered to have excluded themselves from the party.

The release continued, “These members, namely Hipdieu Merlin, Nkeck Jules, and Issa Alhadji, are councillors of SDF-run LOUM council. They were tried by the party’s disciplinary organ in all fairness for anti-party activities. Thereafter, they were considered as having excluded themselves from the party. Three other dissident members followed them.”

The party’s disciplinary organ reportedly conducted a fair trial, resulting in the exclusion of these members from the electoral district rights.

In an attempt to set the record straight, these excluded members convened a meeting on Sunday, November 19, 2023, chaired by the district chairman, Comrade Bandung Djibril, to debunk what the party termed “misinformation.”

The SDF, in light of these events, has urged Cameroonians to remain vigilant against what they referred to as “angels of bad omens” attempting to create confusion within the party.

The party called on its members to stay steadfast, focused, and consolidate the achievements of the party, especially following a successful convention.

For the first time in the party’s history, the SDF had a new Chairman other than the late Ni John Fru Ndi, its founder.

Some analysts say Joshua Osih, the new Chair, is taking over a weakened SDF after the party dismissed more than 30 bigwigs early this year for anti-party activities.
