A Cameroon soldier, identified as Belo Bouba, allegedly from Meiganga, has been killed and his weapon seized by militants involved in the Ambazonia independence movement, which metamorphosed from the Anglophone crisis.

Bouba was ambushed on Monday, July 1st, in Tadu, a separatist stronghold in the Bui division of the conflict-ridden North West region.

According to information gathered by MMI, Bouba had recently attended an epaulette award ceremony in Kumbo, where he received a promotion. Following the ceremony, he was on his way to visit a suitor when he was attacked by separatist fighters.

In a viral video, armed members of the Bui Unity Warriors, led by the self-proclaimed ‘Field Marshal’ Mad Dog, celebrated Bouba’s death, flaunting the gun they had taken from him. “Today is July 1st, 2024. This is Major General Viper and General Newsman of Bui. Here is the French army that we harvested in Tadu,” a voice can be heard in the video, accompanied by cheers from other fighters.

The voice in the video accused the government of abducting local women, stating, “We are sending a message to the military stationed in Tadu that this is the price of snatching people’s women.”

At the time of this report, there had been no response from the government regarding the soldier’s death.

The ongoing crisis in Cameroon’s English-speaking regions has resulted in numerous fatalities, including government soldiers, armed separatists, and unarmed civilians. Efforts to achieve a peaceful resolution have been unsuccessful, as both the government and separatists continue to pursue military actions.
