Soldiers accused of desecrating Noni Din Palace

Cameroonian soldiers have been accused of desecrating the Din Noni Royal Palace, a locality in Bui Division in the country’s North West Region on Wednesday October 20, 2021.

This comes after a series of raids conducted in the search for ‘General’ No Pity, a notorious leader of a non-state armed faction.

A native of the area who spoke to MMI based on anonymity said the soldiers’ action added salt to injury.

“The fons of the area are in the bush as they were abducted by the separatist fighters,” the local stated, adding “The military entered the palace and destroyed some items.”

“I don’t know if they sent them to protect people or to loot and destroy,” he cried out.

In amateur footage shot in the ransacked palace, a local is heard complaining: “Look at the living quarters of the Fon… They deceive us that when they are coming we should not run or that we should run to the palace for safety. Look at the destruction at the palace. What would have happened if they met us or the fon there then?”

Like in past instances, the government has maintained sealed lips over its actions in the North West and South West Regions.

However, weeks back during a visit to the town of Bamenda, the North West capital, the country’s Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Defense, Joseph Beti Assomo said the army was changing its strategy in the ongoing armed conflict.
