Soldiers Brutally Seize Reverend Father From Catholic Church In Buea

A Reverend Father is said to have been arrested in Buea by soldiers of the Rapid Intervention Battalion (BIR), an elite unit of Cameroon’s military.

The priest whose name MMI got as Rev. Fr. Bekong Tobias, is said to have been taken away, earlier today, January 12th, 2022, from the Saint Charles Lwanga Parish, Checkpoint-Molyko, Buea.

While noting that the Reverend Father doubles as the Principal of Saint Paul’s College Bojongo, a source recounts that the men in arms brutally pushed the man into their truck, without uttering a word.

“They pushed him so hard to climb the truck, without regards to what he represents,” a witness regrets

The motive of the arrest is yet to be determined as onlookers say the soldiers did not pose a question to the victim.

Some say the arrest of the principal was carried out with the aid of a spy believed to have notified the military as he was immediately caught shortly after arriving from a meeting in Mutengene.

At the time of the capture, the uniform men are said to have ransacked his car, but nothing incriminating was reported from the search.

His whereabouts are unclear to the eyewitnesses, who nevertheless noted that other priests were absent at the time of the incident.

Another eyewitness revealed that attempts to capture the military truck’s plate number for eventualities purposes proved futile, as the truck had no clear plate identification.

The priest, according to some sources, had been arrested some time ago at Mile 16 in Buea for allegedly harboring separatist fighters.

Contrary to the arrest squad, a team of three army officers arrived at the scene hours later, seeking to find out the identification of those that conducted the arrest, with claims of not having a clue.

The priest’s capture adds to the unfortunate tragic deaths of two, a taxi driver and a farmer, leaving another, reportedly a lawyer, seriously injured. All these incidents were recorded today in Buea.
