Commercial bike riders in Mbingo, Belo sub division of the North West region are mourning their colleague , Eldrain Mbebah Nkain who is reported to have been shot dead in the area.
Popularly known as Loh, sources say the head of the locality’s commercial bike riders was shot dead by the Cameroonian Military as he went to visit his brother.
Our source said “… His younger brother who is mentally retarded was rounded up by the Military. He went to them to retrieve him and as he was trying to identify his younger brother, a man passing by accused him of being Amba.”
Soldiers are said to have opened fire on him without bothering to hear from him or round him up for trial.
A source close to his family says “He has never been Amba but the military opened fire and shot him dead… He was not running away or fighting, he was not armed or being aggressive. He was simply trying to retrieve his younger brother when he was shot dead by the same people he went to talk to.”
Loh’s death, one of thousands since the Anglophone crisis metamorphosised into an armed conflict has once more raised calls for the armed forces to be reined in by authorities.
“Wasn’t the military supposed to arrest him if someone accused him of being Amba? He was right there with them… They keep executing people as they please” a resident of Mbingo notes.
Despite several rights abuses, government has always maintained that the armed force has been acting in a professional manner.
