Cameroon: Soldiers intercept war weapons, ammunition in North Region

Some war weapons and ammunitions have been intercepted in Cameroon’s North Region.

The items were seized in Gonna, Benoué Division.

The ammunition believed to have been used for attacks and kidnappings in the locality were seized following a special operation launched by the national gendarmerie.

Officials say the operation had been going on since mid-January.

“In Gonna, the inhabitants who are under pressure from these people day and night have completely lost sleep,” revealed an MMI reporter, who added that, ” With this phenomenon of insecurity of which the majority of traders are victims, the high command decided to launch ‘Operation ADANO’ to track down these criminals.”

“We have often been informed of the presence of weapons of war held by criminals and artisanal weapons,” indicated Lieutenant Colonel Fewou Nguetna Serge, Head of gendarmerie deployed alongside other elements for the operation.

“When the Gonna gendarmerie brigade prepares to pick up these criminals, they disappear into the wild and abandon their equipment in the process,” said the gendarmerie Official.

Operation ADANO began on the night of January 22 precisely at the Gonna bus station where two suspicious individuals on a motorcycle went to commit their crimes.

“They were seen by citizens who did not hesitate to notify gendarmerie officials. And immediately, the personnel of the Gonna brigade rushed to the scene,” added Lieutenant Colonel Fewou Nguetna Serge.

The seizure has to an extent reassured the inhabitants of Gonna of a possible decrease in frequent attacks and kidnappings in the locality.
