Soldiers kill leader of Bakweri sacred juju in Buea

Soldiers in Buea have killed the leader of the dreaded Bakweri dance group, the “Nganya”.

John Monono was killed in the wee hours of Monday, November 15, 2021, as he led a group of 15 to perform Nganya rites.

The Nganya traditional dance according to the locals, is not to be seen by non-members reasons why the dance was exhibited at the early hours of the morning.

Detailed investigations reveal that the deceased, John Monono led a team of fifteen “Nganya” members in the rites.
When they realized a vehicle was approaching their position, he stepped forward to notify the said vehicle which happened to be the military, of their activity.

On approaching the military, while covered with traditional outfits, including a mouth sealed with freshly harvested palm leaves, the soldiers opened fire, mistaking the Nganya ringleader for a separatist fighter.

“John Monono survived the first shot. He struggled his way through a bamboo bar, where he was tracked and shot at close range, leaving his private part and part of his spinal completely shattered,” a member of the group said.

He adds that “the reason we all were not killed was because of the law that says the Nganya is forbidden from the public eye, which made our leader to have been the only one who engaged them in a talk before what happened. We all would be death by now”.

In an attempt to parade the corpse as a sign of showing anger about the unfortunate event, the population was confronted by the military at the “ Bongo Square”, who seized and personally returned the corpse to the mortuary.
Mimi Mefo Info has been informed that one other member of the dance group was injured.

Locals say a survivor has been taken to the theater for surgery. All are hoping he makes it out alive.
