Soldiers torture, shoot dead ex amba fighter

An ex separatist fighter has been shot dead after he was abducted and tortured by soldiers in Buea.

Akumbi Elias, the ex fighter is said to have dropped his weapons and reintegrated into society, but did not notify authorities like some of his counterparts, a move that would cost him his life.

“In Buea he was attending the Apostolic Church, Great Soppo and later on he had a job with the Norwegian Refugee Council, NRC as a porter” a source says.

Akumbi Elias MMI is told later got a taxi from a friend in Yaounde, brought it to Buea and started work before soldiers laid hands on him.

“He was betrayed by a young man he wanted to teach how to drive. While he was at a mobile money kiosk in Molyko, two military men in civilian wear attacked him an drove him to Munyenge in a quarter called Number One Water to show them an Amba General called Opopo.”

“Unfortunately, they could not catch him (the amba general), so they took Elias back to Bafia after beating him in a house, shot and killed him” the source explains.

Akumbi Elias is not the first ex combatant to be killed after dropping his weapons. Soldiers and separatist fighters have all blamed each other for extra judicial killings and other human rights abuses in the Anglophone regions.

The over three-year long war has left thousands dead and many more stranded in and out of the regions.
