The Minister of Territorial Administration, Paul Atanga Nji, has said some pro-independence fighters have already surrendered their weapons to administrative authorities.
“As we speak I can confirm that a good number of terrorists have surrendered to nearest administrative units. We are expecting others to do same. We continue to tell them that they have no means or power to fight against a government.” Minister Atanga Nji declared in Bamenda as he joined PM Yang to launch CPDM campaigns for candidate Paul Biya.
The Permanent Secretary of the National Security Council and Divisional CPDM Head in Mezam assured politicians that the North West and South West regions of Cameroon are safe and secure for them to conduct their campaigns. Paul Atanga Nji said things are under control now like never before.
But opposition leaders and civil society actors have admitted the unsafe nature of the North West and South West regions hit by armed conflicts for close to two years.
Only Garga Haman Adji and Joshua Osih have promised to brave the odds and woo voters in the anglophone regions.
CPDM campaigns were launched in Bamenda and Buea, but the level of security disposition and choice of venue were revealing of the situation on the ground.
The CPDM campaign programme in other parts of the anglophone regions is yet to be unveiled.
