SONARA fire: preliminary investigations say electrical fault to blame, separatist involvement ruled out

Unit 10 of the National Refining Company (SONARA) went up in flames 10pm Friday May 31.
While an official communication is awaited from the company, preliminary investigations have ruled out claims that the accident is the handiwork of separatists.

“It’s a technical incident that has nothing to do with secessionists. The Director of Operations had drawn the attention of his hierarchy to it: the complacent behavior of the ENEO group.
“A refinery can not be relaunched repeatedly with constant power cuts. This technical incident will have serious consequences for our economic operation. It is one thing SONARA will not have to open its doors anytime soon.
“The losses are enormous and the implications will significantly affect our economy. Situation quite serious,” info making rounds suggest.
Last night, loud explosions were heard SONARA, amid reports that the flames ignited after a tanker explosion.

Management will issue a statement following a meeting this morning.
