SONARA, Maroua varsity seal socioeconomic development deal


The national oil refining corporation, SONARA and the University of Maroua have reached a partnership to promote socioeconomic development.


The deal was signed at a recent ceremony in Limbe, Fako division of the South West region. The partnership, according to Jean Paul Simo, General Manager of SONARA falls in line with the company’ vision to align with the National Development Strategy.


Maroua university students, according to Simo, will have a frame work for learning and be refined. The partnership will implement the development of training, mutual promotion of products in parties and ensure the employability of the profile of learners and others.


“What we agreed on is first of all the internship, which is the priority of the university of Maroua” said Professor Idrissou, Rector of the University of Maroua.

He emphasized that the partnership will not only benefit the over 1500 students of the faculty of MineS and Petroleum but the benefits will be extended to the over fifty thousand students of the seven faculties of the university.


Prof Idrissou as well urged the General Manager of the SONARA to provide financial assistance to his university. “The national oil refining company would have maybe tried to devote as far as its budget is concerned. Maybe a small subsidy, let’s say, what we can call the finance research,”he said.
