The Batanga people of Ndian Division in the South West Region have ended their general assembly, “Ndop Bobombi Wa Batangas,” with a pledge to fast-track development initiatives and restore peace in all 27 villages within the clan.

The three-day assembly, which ended in Mundemba on Saturday, April 13, was a platform for the Batanga community to deliberate on pressing issues facing their clan and devise strategies for progress and harmony.

Chaired by the President of the Batanga Development Association, Chief Dr. Betana Ferdinand Masumbe, the assembly saw spirited discussions and resolutions aimed at addressing key challenges confronting the community.

Foremost among the resolutions was a firm commitment to prioritise education as a cornerstone of Batanga’s development.

The community also resolved to ensure that educational opportunities are accessible and embraced by all members.

Throughout the assembly, participants engaged in robust brainstorming sessions to devise solutions to various concerns, including restoring peace to their communities and advancing the development agenda across the 27 villages comprising the Batanga clan.

Development and education in the clan have been adversely affected by the ongoing armed conflict in the English-speaking Regions of Cameroon.

The crisis displaced several Batanga natives and hampered the organisation of their cultural and development festival.

The recent come-together was an opportunity for them to discuss rebuilding what had been lost.

Cultural preservation also featured prominently, with vibrant displays showcasing the rich traditions, customs, and heritage of the Batanga people, aimed at imparting these invaluable aspects to the younger generation.

The president of the Batanga Chiefs Association, Moleka Mathias, underscored the collective ownership of the community’s land and emphasised the importance of adherence to established laws and traditions.

He affirmed their commitment to ensuring that future generations inherit a legacy of prosperity and cultural richness.

The community extended appreciation to Prime Minister Chief Dr. Dion Nguté and President Paul Biya for their unwavering backing of Batanga development endeavours.

Officials from neighboring clans in Ndian Division also attended the Batanga general assembly, sharing the spirit of solidarity and collaboration in the pursuit of shared objectives.
