South West region kicks off Covid-19 vaccination

12,000 Covid-19 vaccine doses have been received at the South West governor’s office.

Speaking at an event to receive the vaccines, Dr Ebongo Zacks, South West Regional Delegate for Public Health said he and his staff had set the example.

“I started with myself and the entire staff of the delegation. In the days ahead, we will scale down the vaccines to various health districts in the region” he promised.

Speaking in Tuesday, the official told reporters “there have been 2047 positive cases so far in the region, with 40 deaths”.

The vaccines, he added, are expected to reduce contamination and mortality rates from the vaccine.

The South West Covid-19 vaccination follows the national vaccination campaign launched on Monday by Public Health Minister, Dr Manaouda Malachie.

Other regions have since taken over the baton, with health personnel given priority.
