Special Status: House of Chiefs evaluates first days in office

The North-West House of Chiefs have ended week long consultations among traditional rulers in the region on better ways of ensuring back to school and peace to return in their various fondoms.

The president of the Northwest House of Chiefs, Fon Shumetan Kelvin II has revealed that their first months in office have been used to restructure traditional institutions in the region so that they can function properly.

Speaking September 21, the President of the North-West House of Chiefs said they have been working to ensure that traditional rulers in the region who are most affected by the crisis are actively involved in the peace process.

“Over the years, we have been looking at traditional rulers or fons as individuals, but these are institutions. We felt that it was necessary for us to reorganize these institutions so that they could function at their best to engage traditional rulers go back to their communities and campaign for back to school,” he said. “We concluded that this can’t be done without peace. Hence, all traditional rulers should be peace ambassadors in their communities.”

Members of the Northwest House of Chiefs for the past weeks have been consulting traditional rulers, division by division in other to appraise their worries and challenges.

As confusing as the name, many have wandered how paramount Fon in the Northwest region can be called a chief, titles reserved for quarter heads in the region.
