The president of the Northwest regional assembly has announced there shall be the construction of a gas plant in Bamenda to resolve the high cost of purchasing household gas.
Professor Fru Angwafor III made the revelation at the opening ceremony of the ordinary session of the North West regional assembly holding in Bamenda from September 20-24th.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, the assembly president disclosed that the project is in partnership with the national hydrocarbons stabilization fund and will go a long way in solving the frequent household gas shortage or scarcity the periodically affects the region.
The average price per gas bottle in Bamenda stands at 8.000frs-8500frs, an amount higher than what obtains in other regions.
According to the assembly’s president, the imminent construction of a gas packaging and distribution plant in Bamenda is a therapy. “With this factory in the region, gas shall be available and affordable throughout the region. The days of scarcity shall be over after its completion,” he said.
According to Fiona, a housewife in Bamenda and consumer of household gas, the coming of the gas plant shall be something that will help many people.
”I am certain, that it will make gas cheaper. At the time you go to buy gas and they just tell you that the price has gone up and you do not know why. I’m sure with the plant things will change,” she said.
The regional assembly that was created as part of the special status conferred on the North-West region to solve the ongoing Anglophone crisis recently voted the sum of over three billion as its budget for the year.
