Sports: Cameroon Volleyball Lionesses Demand Bonus Increase

Cameroon’s female volleyball team have penned a letter to the President of the Volleyball Federation of Cameroon Julien Serge Abouem asking for better bonus packages.

The Cameroon Volleyball girls, now three time African Volleyball Champions say the rewards they have been receiving for their services to the nation are insignificant. This, they stated, is added to the fact that the bonuses are often paid later than expected.

The letter written to the Federation, signed by team captain Christelle Tchoudjang, insinuated that they need a raise from the 300 thousand FCFA Olympic bonuses and the over 1.3 Million FCFA participation bonus.

The volleyball squad in the letter asked the president of the Federation: “Do you think that such a sum is suitable for athletes whose sporting activity is their sole source of income?”

The letter also argued that the bonus packages ought to be significantly upped as they are neither given any health nor other guarantees by the association.

The volleyball Lionesses also criticised the facilities they used in preparation for their latest triumph in Rwanda. To them, they have been grossly underlooked by the system albeit their performances which have seen them win significant silverware for the state.
