Amidst the ongoing uproar about the possible disqualification by CAF of the Olembe Stadium from hosting the Opening Ceremony of the African Cup of Nations, Professor Narcisse Mouele Kombi, the Minister of Sports and Physical Education has said the stadium will be ready in time.
Before his assurances, the Confederation of African Football had given Cameroon until November 30, for the completion and delivery of the structure. CAF expressed its disappointment at the slow pace of work at the stadium.
Sports Minister later said the delivery of the stadium would be done on December 03, which was not respected nevertheless.
According to Professor Narcisse Mouele Kombi, the preparation for the AFCON has not been easy, but he also assured that “the opening ceremony will indeed be held on January 09 at the Olembe Football Stadium…”
He also mentioned that completion works are set to continue at the stadium, a structure he says the public has already baptised “The Paul Biya Stadium”.
