Stade FC Bertoua drags FECAFOOT to Court of Arbitration for Sport over heavy sanctions

By Amina Hilda

Stade Football Club of Bertoua has dragged the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) following heavy sanctions recently imposed on them by the federation.

The club was forfeited from the Elite Two Championship and demoted two divisions following a decision on June 1, 2023.

In addition, its president Instele Mbiekouom was suspended from all activities related to FECAFOOT for 5 years and ordered to pay a fine of 5 million FCFA.

The club was accused by FECAFOOT of forfeiting against Victoria United on the 25th day of Elite Two. The match was stopped by the main referee in the 87th minute due to the poor nature of the pitch.

In this light, they have called on CAS to, “Annul the impugned decision of June 1, 2023 in its entirety, Order that the Match be replayed in its entirety,” among others.
