State Universities to get fast internet connection

By Timfuchi Aaron

Cameroon’s Ministry of Higher Education has announce that it shall partner with a mobile telephone company to provide high-speed internet connection to all state universities.

The move is intended to interconnect universities digitally and to facilitate online learning that has been slowed by poor internet connection from current service providers.

The information was disclosed on the campus of the University of Bamenda by the chief information officer at the ministry of higher education Prof Atsa Eloundi Roger.

The agreement, he revealed, will entail the provision of close to 10.000 megabites of internet connection per second to each state university.

The chief information officer in the ministry of higher education, Professor Atsa Etoundi Roger says the high-speed internet connection will link each state university to the National digital development centre in Yaounde.

UBa’s Digital Development Centre is yet to go operational and it’s Vice-Chancellor Professor Theresia Nkuo Akenji has described the pioneer workshop on digital development as timely.

“We will be able to connect with lecturers not only in Cameroon but across the world”, she said.

The officials from the Ministry of Higher Education say when all the universities will be connected digitally, it will be possible for students to follow lectures online from any other state university.
