Strong waves shatter cargo boat off Idenau’s coast

Inhabitants of Ideanau, Fako division in the South West scrambled to pick some items left behind as sea waves broke a boat anchored at shore.

According to an eyewitness writing to Mimi Mefo Info, “The boat left Calabar in the Federal Republic of Nigeria Monday June 20th. But as it was still trying to anchor, the four driving engines automatically stopped. Due to this, the boat was now controlled by the waves.

The waves, locally called “awawa”, took the boat to a different location in the sea and destroyed it.The goods which were in the boat like can drinks, Nigerian small Guinness, dudu milk among others have been scattered”.

Business men and victims of the incident say they have lost huge sums of money.

Eyewitnesses say there has been no human losses following the incident.

Note that Cameroon has not officially opened her borders shut down since March this year due to the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.
