The University of Buea recently hosted an exhibition showcasing the diverse talents and innovative projects of its students. Among the highlights of the event was the presentation by the College of Technology, featuring groundbreaking inventions such as a solar-powered cassava drying machine, a device for slicing eru, a smart home system, an egussi cracking machine, and a micro power generator. The exhibition, held on March 16, 2024, at the university campus, captivated attendees with its ingenuity and creativity.

Ethel, one of the students involved in the projects, shared insights into the creative process behind their inventions. “We draw inspiration from various sources, including our lecturers and personal insights. Once we have an idea, we conduct extensive research and consult relevant literature to enrich our understanding. This ensures that our concepts evolve into tangible solutions that can be effectively utilised,” she explained.

The University of Buea’s open day event marked a significant milestone, coinciding with the institution’s 30th anniversary. It served as a platform for the university to showcase its contributions to the community and demonstrate the quality of education it offers.

Professor Ngomo Horace Manga, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Buea, emphasised the importance of bridging theory with practical application. “While theoretical knowledge is essential, the true measure of our students’ capabilities lies in their ability to translate that knowledge into practical solutions. Our focus is on equipping them with the skills they need to succeed in the real world,” he remarked.

The exhibition attracted a diverse audience, including high school students from GBHS Molyko, who were eager to explore potential career paths and gain insights into various fields of study. They visited stands set up by different departments and institutions, gaining firsthand experience of the opportunities available at the university.

University officials expressed optimism about the future, emphasising their commitment to nurturing talent and providing the best possible education to their students. They hope that events like the open day will continue to inspire creativity and innovation within the university community, fostering a culture of excellence for years to come.
