The 2nd edition of the “Stand Up for African Women Entrepreneurs” (Sufawe) programme kicked off in Douala, Cameroon, on February 22, 2024. Minister Achille Bassilekin III of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises, Social Economy, and Handicrafts officially inaugurated the event, organized by the Africa Development Club under the theme “Women Entrepreneurship: Accelerator of Inclusive Growth.”

This year’s Sufawe programme promises to be an empowering experience for aspiring and established female business owners. The opening day featured a masterclass led by three accomplished ambassadors: Nathalie Bitho from Togo, Kate Fotso, and Nelly Chatue Diop from Cameroon. Diop, a shining example of entrepreneurial spirit, also received the Sufawe Cameroon 2024 Trophy.

The masterclass served as a springboard for the program’s core activities, scheduled for February 23rd. Participants will engage in business meetings and delve into a training programme designed to equip them with the knowledge and skills needed to thrive in the competitive business landscape.

Sufawe’s focus on inclusive growth aligns perfectly with the Cameroonian government’s priorities. By fostering the development of women-led businesses, the programme contributes to economic diversification and job creation, ultimately benefiting the entire community.

The presence of Minister Bassilekin III at the inauguration underscores the government’s commitment to supporting women’s entrepreneurship. With its focus on training, mentorship, and networking opportunities, Sufawe is poised to make a significant impact on the lives of countless Cameroonian women.

As the programme unfolds, it will be interesting to see the success stories that emerge from this year’s cohort. Sufawe has the potential to be a powerful catalyst for change, empowering women to take their rightful place as leaders in Cameroon’s economy.
