Switzerland Should Come Clean on Finding Solution to Anglophone Crisis says Christopher Fomunyoh

After resisting calls for Swiss-led mediation to end the Anglophone crisis, Cameroon’s President Biya may finally go in for the option to put an end to the over three-year-long conflict

This is was revealed yesterday by Simonetta Sommaruga,
Swiss President who took to Twitter to say she had a phone conversation with the President.

Simonetta said they spoke on “health and humanitarian cooperation in Cameroon as well as on Switzerland’s commitment to finding solutions in the North West and South West.”

While some see the decision as a step forward in ending the bloody war, others say Switzerland is yet to take a stance.

Christopher Fomunyoh, the Senior Associate for Africa and Regional Director at the National Democratic Institute for International Relations, says Switzerland “should come clean on efforts to a negotiated, peaceful resolution of the armed conflict in Cameroon.”

“Either you seriously lead peace talks and play your hand fully, or you become complicit in waving the talks every time others want to act. People are dying daily” he said on Twitter.

President Biya, on his part, has remained silent over the telephone conversation, raising further doubts on how feasible the Swiss-led mediation will be.
