The city of Bamenda has been hit by a water crisis, especially the up station neighborhood.

The area has witnessed an increase in population as the crisis in the region drags on. New buildings are put up on daily basis and many top civil servants in the region have taken up residence in the area.

Residents now take containers to distant areas to fetch water for the respective homes. The concentration in the area like elsewhere in the city has left several taps dry.

Even water distribution by CAMWATER is not enough to remedy the situation.
Given this acute shortage of water, Council officials in Bamenda 1 subdivision have disclosed that there is project to construct two water tanks of about 40.000 liters and boreholes to ensure constant water supply to the population in the Bamenda 1 municipality.

The project, they promised, shall commence in March 2022.

The Bamenda 1 council development officer, Derrick Lenjo states that the new water sources will add to the community taps and the over 14 water catchment sources to improve the livelihood of the population in the municipality.

Bamenda 1 subdivision in the Mezam division is made up of 48 quarters and the water crisis is a serious dilemma especially during the dry season.

Since Mbigha Njah Felix took over as mayor of the Bamenda 1 council, solving the water crisis has been one of his major objectives.
