Taxi burnt, driver feared dead after heavy gunfire in Muea

This morning, bullet covers inundated a portion of Central Market street in Muea, a restive neighborhood in South West’s regional capital, Buea.

Ambazonia separatist fighters stormed the locality this morning, sparking a violent confrontation with the Cameroon military which lasted close to an hour.

The confrontation did not fail to leave casualties.

A commercial taxi was burnt and it is believed its driver was also killed.

Traders, who were coming to Muea market this morning and got trapped in the gunfire said they saw Ambazonia separatist fighters exchanging gunfire with the Cameroon military. “They came on bikes,” a resident of Central Market Street could be heard telling other residents who had gathered by the roadside to discuss the issue.

The windscreen of one of the traders’ vehicles was shot at but fortunately no one was in it. Bullets pierced through the front and back windscreens but no one was in the vehicle at the time.

Armed military officers stormed Tarred Street area and other streets in Muea removing everyone from the house. A nursing mother could be seen carrying her month-old baby to the roadside, where the military asked everyone to assemble in what is commonly called “calee calee”.
