A teacher in Bafut is currently undergoing pains after he was arrested and tortured by elements of the Rapid Intervention Battalion known in it’s French acronym as BIR.
Reports say the teacher was arrested and a gun hung on his neck. He was accussed of being a separatist fighter, we gathered.
According to a video sent to us by a discruntled element of the BIR, voices could be heard saying in French that they were going to kill him.
After undergoing torture at the BIR camp, he was later released and could barely work.
“This is how innocent people are aerated by the BIR elements and killed for nothing. Can a man be arrested with a gun and later set free just like that, where did the gun come from? Many have disappeared after being taken away by soldiers under the pretext that they were Amba fighters, Awah,” a native of Bafut told MMI.
There has been no word from the authorities of the region concerning the incident. This is coming at a time when some of the commercial bike riders arrested in Ndop on their way to bury a colleague and later accussed have not been seen since then. There are fears that they might have been killed.

These are, however, very trying times for several journalists, especially for MMI whose reporters have to brave all the odds to work remotely for fear of reprisal attacks.
That’s why we continue to ask for your constant support.
