Primary school teachers decry state recruitment process

Several trained teachers have cried out against what they say is government bias in the process of recruiting trained teachers in primary schools in the country.

The bias , they told MMI, stems from the fact that teachers with earlier qualification and experience are largely snubbed for more recently qualified teachers.

MMI has also learned that teachers who are willing and capable of bribing their way into recruitment are the ones who are given the priority when the time comes.

“Why can’t they make it a national cake for everyone?” Laments an exasperated teacher.

“What justification do they have to give us? Perhaps that our own training wasn’t good. we have been teaching in private schools with very little pay that can’t even take care ourselves” she adds.

The most recent recruitment list for teachers published on July 29th has had the same questioning over the processes of selection.

‘Neglected’ teachers say they have been given the impression that their own training has been snubbed in favour of the recently graduated teachers.

“We are advocating for a fair recruitment process based on who obtained the CAPIEMP first. When I see names on the list that obtained their certificate before me I feel happy for them but when I see names that obtained after me, it hurts me. Its not fair” laments another teacher
