Tension grips Galim amidst rumors of possible separatist attack

Galim, a town in the West Region of Cameroon, is currently shrouded in tension as rumours of an impending separatist attack have spread wild.

The anxiety has prompted parents to hastily withdraw their children from schools, sparking scenes of chaos as students and pupils rush home in fear.

This apprehension follows a tragic incident on Nov. 21 in Bamenyam, where separatist fighters launched a brutal assault on a bustling market, resulting in nine deaths.

The attackers shot locals, set vehicles ablaze, and kidnapped several individuals.

The aftermath, as revealed by the Ministry of Communication, includes a grim toll of 9 civilians killed, 1 woman and 8 men among them.

Additionally, numerous people were kidnapped, and significant property damage was inflicted, with shops, vehicles, and motorcycles set ablaze.

“The first assessment of this macabre expedition shows 9 civilians killed, including 1 woman and 8 men; several people kidnapped; 5 shops and 2 vehicles burned, 2 motorcycles burned and many others swept away,” MINCOM revealed.

The Cameroon government reports that the victims of the Bamenyam attack suffered severe injuries, further underscoring the brutality of the assault.

The unsettling events in Bamenyam have cast a dark shadow over Galim, as residents fear that the separatist violence may extend to their town.

As parents hurriedly collect their children from schools and videos circulate depicting students fleeing in panic, the situation in Galim remains uncertain.

The government has not confirmed the presence of separatist fighters in the town, but the tension suggests that the recent tragedy in Bamenyam has heightened the sense of vulnerability among Galim residents.

The atmosphere in Galim is thick with anxiety, and the memory of the Bamenyam massacre looms large.

The community is on edge, awaiting official updates and clarification on the potential threat.

The specter of violence, fueled by the recent events in the region, underscores the challenges faced by communities caught in the crossfire of separatist conflicts.
