“The lawn at the Japoma Stadium is more than ok. We’ve seen worse pitches in previous AFCON” Ivory Coast Head Coach

Ivory Coast Head Manager Patrick Baumelle during the post match press conference yesterday denied to blame the nature of the Japoma pitch for Ivory Coast’s display against Sierra Leone.

“The lawn at the Japoma Stadium is more than ok. We’ve seen worse pitches in previous AFCON tournaments. The stadium too is very beautiful, a very nice infrastructure,” he praised.

Ivory Coast played a 2-2 draw with Sierra Leone yesterday after a last minute costly error from their Goalkeeper.

The Elephants of Ivory Coast will have to avoid defeat against Algeria in order to secure a place the knockout stages of the competition.

Tournament favourites Algeria are also on very high risks of missing out from the knockout stages. Algeria lost its second group game against Equatorial Guinea at the Japoma Stadium, meaning they have just 1 point from two games and no goal scored.

Should Algeria fail to win by a convincing margin against Ivory Coast, then the tournament favourites and defending champions will crash out of the competition despite their immense firepower.
