Customs personnel throughout the world are celebrating International Customs Day 2023 today.
The theme for this year’s commemoration is ‘Nurturing the Next Generation: Promoting a Culture of Knowledge-Sharing and Professional Pride in Customs,” with the goal of increasing a sense of connection to the world’s customs community.
Every year on January 26, International Customs Day commemorates the first session of the World Customs Organization (WCO), which was held in 1953. The day is observed to honour and raise awareness about the work of customs officials in ensuring the seamless transit of commodities across borders.
It also raises awareness of Customs officials’ critical role in cross-border regulatory actions. On this day, customs authorities from WCO member administrations hold events.
