Three killed in Kikaikom military raid

Focus on Cameroon over the past weeks has been on combatting the coronavirus. With over 800 cases, many are indoors in respect of government measures.

This however was not the case in Kikaikom, Kumbo in the Bui division, North West region. Soldiers raided the village causing locals to flee into the bushes for safety.

Despite the rains, a source says no one dared return home all of last night as they feared for their lives.

The corpses of three persons shot dead too “stayed under the rain the whole night and no one was there to bury them because the military stayed there waiting for people who will come for burial.”

Locals say they were only able to leave their hideouts and begin counting their losses moments ago after the forces left.

“The soldiers that left Kikaikom hurried towards the road to Tadu village and some to Mbiim village after Tadu” the source adds.

The account has been confirmed by locals of Tadu village who have also fled their homes and sought safety in the bushes.

The raid on Tadu village MMI gathers started early in the morning despite the rains.

Expressing fear for the safety of his mother and sister in the bush, a source says “I am scared for their safety and that of others in the villages.”

“Stay home has become stay in the bush for them” he adds.

Despite several raids, government has denied any wrongdoing including torture, and extra judicial killings in the North West and South West regions where it has been fighting separatists for three years now.

Despite a call for ceasefire from the UN to facilitate the fight against coronavirus, the battle has raged on unabated. Over three thousand lives have been lost so far.
