Tiko Council carries away dismantled Mobile Kiosks over non payment of 150,000 tax increase

Authorities of Tiko council have carried away Mobile money kiosks dismantled following a tax increase that Mobile money operators are reportedly unable to pay.

Caterpillars operated by Tiko council were captured on Camera Tuesday April 11, carrying the kiosks away.

These kiosk were dismantled Sunday April 9, 2023.

The Council had imposed a tax increase of 150,000frs (249.15 USD) for mobile money and call box operators-which was initially 50,000frs.

Most of the operators who spoke to MMI expressed frustrations lamenting that, “the amount was to high for small business like theirs.”
