A certain Mr. Paul Sinju, resident in Tiko, South West region of Cameroon is currently on the run.
Security forces launched a search for him after a physical exchange with a lawyer in her office.
Reports say his action came after the lawyer, Egbe Eyong Evelyne, working with the Nnoko Ngaaje Chamber, defended Mr. Sinju’s siblings against him in a court case.
“The case was about their father’s property… he wanted to control the property. He wanted that all the property should be controlled by him without any objections from his siblings,” a source tells Mimi Mefo Info.
Following the assault captured on video, the International Federation of Women Lawyers, FIDA addressed a complaint to the State Counsel for Tiko, expressing their dismay.
The video, FIDA Country Vice/National President, Gladys Mbuya said, “… is first hand and live evidence of violence being perpetrated against a woman.”
“We followed up the said video by placing a call to the victim who confirmed the dastardly behavior of the above mentioned suspect. We by this complaint entreat you to use your office and cause investigations to be opened so as to bring the culprit to justice,” FIDA urged the State Counsel for Tiko.
Nnoko Ngaaje Chambers where the assault took place has also addressed a complaint to the Tiko State Counsel pressing for action to be taken.
The suspect, the chambers states, “…started assaulting our client [Eyong Evelyne], grabbed her neck and used a broom to hit her several times.”
It adds that “… the suspect also destroyed two office chairs and a table and many other vital documents belonging to some clients, ransacked the office and also carted away with the sum of 1,000,000 FCFA … belonging to a client.”
“… Our client sustained several injuries on her body and was rushed to the General Hospital in Tiko … Sir, we will be grateful if you can use your good office to bring the suspect to book,” the counsel for the assaulted lady requests.
At press time, the assailant remains at large, after authorities issued a warrant for his arrest.
Reports say days back, another female lawyer still in Tiko was assaulted by an angry individual.
Speaking on behalf of other lawyers, Yisa Marvin Esq. says they of the legal profession will be hard on anyone that assaults anyone of them. “… They should be very careful. The fraternity is so broad and so intense that we shall not take it. At this point in time a warrant of arrest has already been served,” he stated.
Eyong Evelyne Esq., he adds, should not be afraid, as she will be given maximum support.
“The principals in chambers should come to one accord. They should come to support the paralegals. They should be there to support each and everyone in the system … let them come together let’s work hand in glove and see that the legal field works in our favour,” he urged.
