Tiko Mayor Discloses Strategy for 45 Million FCFA Won in Cleanest City Contest

The Mayor of the Municipal Council of Tiko, His Royal Majesty Peter Ikome Mesoso, has revealed the council’s plans for the 45 million FCFA garnered from the recent Cleanest City Contest.

Tiko secured its position among the top ten cleanest cities in Cameroon, claiming the 4th spot with a cash prize of 45,000,000 FCFA.

This prize was won during a Cleanest City Contest orchestrated by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development in Garoua, Adamawa region of Cameroon, on October 2, 2023. The event coincided with the 37th World Habitat Day celebration, focusing on “Resilient Urban Economies: Cities as Drivers of Growth and Recovery,” held at the conference Hall of the Roumdé Adjia stadium.

Speaking at the Tiko Council programme budget orientation debate on November 9, 2023, at the Tiko Council banquet Hall, Mayor Peter Mesoso outlined the allocation of the 45 million FCFA to enhance the city’s cleanliness. He emphasised the intention to invest in tractors to maintain the tidiness of the municipality of Tiko.

While presenting the check to the Senior Divisional Officer of Fako, represented by his first assistant, Mayor Mesoso addressed rumours about misappropriation, stating, “Since we came back, I have heard so many people saying we have eaten the money. But I want to say that this money is for a project.”

The mayor underscored the objective of ensuring continuity in efforts to keep the city clean, expressing the aspiration to secure the top position in the next National Cleanest City contest.

It’s noteworthy that the Tiko Municipal Council initially emerged as the cleanest city in the South West before representing the region at the national level in Garoua.

In this year’s contest, Garoua claimed the title of the cleanest city nationwide, earning a substantial sum of 100 million FCFA. Meanwhile, the North West Region, represented by Nkambe, secured the 6th position, acquiring 30 million FCFA.
