Traders in Bambili, Tubah Sub-division of Mezam Division, North West Region are lamenting over the closure of their shops.
Traders told MMI that the Mayor of Tubah Council, Tanjong Martin Mishungong sealed their shops over non-payment of taxes.
They described the actions of the Mayor as “unacceptable” given that the government suspended taxes in the restive Anglophone regions.
“The Mayor of Tubah is imposing illegal taxes on the population (commonly called patang), and he is sealing people’s shops of which Cameroon government suspended taxes in the North West and South West region of Cameroon three years back,” a trader told MMI.
“The population is really in tears,” he went further, adding that: “He only traders in Bambili are being targeted.”
