Traditional chief accused of raping 16-year-old IDP in Bafoussam

A traditional ruler has been accused of sexually assaulting an Internally displaced person (IDP) in Bafoussam, West Region of Cameroon.

The traditional authority to whom this teenager, who left the North-West Region, was handed over, reportedly took advantage of her situation of distress to sexually abuse her.

Six months ago, her parents entrusted her to a driver, indicating the precise place where she was going to be dropped off in Bafoussam.

Although having given his consent, the driver, seeing the flow of passengers looking for transport from Bamenda in Santa, changed his mind.

He, therefore, decided to transfer those heading for Mbouda and Bafoussam to another car that had Mbouda as its terminus.

While transferring these persons, the driver as well transferred the 16-year-old girl, who could not communicate in French, without giving any details to the next driver.

The young girl once in Bafoussam, became stranded since she had no contacts and did not know where exactly to go.

An English-speaking motorcycle driver, noticing the stranded young girl, proposed to drop her off at a chiefdom where she could at least have a place to sleep while waiting to find her relatives.

She was well received by the chef who gave the young girl a warm welcome, albeit with hidden intentions.

Over time, the traditional ruler began to forcefully use the young girl to satisfy his sexual urges.

Despite the search notices launched in the media by the worried family, the traditional ruler made no efforts to send the girl back to her family.

Six months later, the young girl was able to run away and get to the bus station where she took a bus to return to her parents in Bamenda.

She recounted her story to her family who without hesitation, decided to initiate legal proceedings.

Meanwhile, the driver to whom the girl had been entrusted at the level of Santa had been arrested some months ago and detained at the Mbouda prison

It is within the framework of these investigations that this traditional chief is about to be arrested.

The case is still ongoing.
