In an effort to combat the forgery of car documents in the country, Transport Minister Jean Ernest Massena Ngale has launched a mobile application that allows law enforcement officers and car owners to verify the authenticity of car documents instantly.

The app enables users to easily check roadworthiness certificates, car registration documents, and driving licenses.

To support this initiative, the minister has urged law enforcement officers, judicial police officers with special competence from the Ministry of Transport, insurance providers, roadworthiness centres, and vehicle registration certificate centres to systematically verify these documents during every operation.

Beyond addressing car theft and document forgery, the application aims to help law enforcement agencies tackle the issue of illegally imported vehicles.

In 2020, businesses in Cameroon reported that customs in Adamawa seized numerous vehicles smuggled from Nigeria. Statistics indicate that Cameroon lost about 200 billion FCFA in revenue due to car smuggling.

Earlier this year, in April, customs in Ekok, at the Cameroon-Nigeria border, seized five tourist vehicles smuggled from Nigeria. These vehicles were identified as illegal due to the absence of registration numbers.

The introduction of these applications is expected to reduce such smuggling activities significantly.

Vehicle owners can access the platforms online through the following links:
