Transport Minister summons crisis meeting over recurrent road accidents

Following a recent spree of deadly road accidents that have anhillated hundreds across the country in the past month, the Minister of Transport, Jean Ernest Massena Ngalle Bibehe will today hold a crisis meeting to seek a way forward.

The meeting which will be held with the figures of the Interurban land transport sector, will look specifically at what is going wrong and what possibly can be done to end accidents.

The meeting is set to take place barely a week after a series of accidents in the Centre region alone killed at least 40 persons in 48 hours.

The first of these accidents occured in the town of Nyokon 1 on August 4, which killed 2 persons and injured more than 28. The second occured in the town of Awae, not far away from Yaoundé, killing 16 persons and the third at the Pont D’Olembe in Batchenga which killed 22 persons.

Faced with these numerous accidents, the Minister of Transport threatened to shut down any transport agency which will be involved in anymore accidents henceforth.

Many however were of the belief that a warning alone did not suffice.
