Tribal sentiments evoked after election of new Douala City Mayor

Douala City dwellers have strongly criticised the exclusion of the Bassas, Bakokos and Northerners from the pioneer Douala City Council executive.

They question why the CPDM invested only Douala natives as City Mayor and deputies, whereas the Bassas and Bakokos just like the Doualas, are indigenes of Douala.

The observers also outlined the great contribution of individuals from the grand North to the growth of the CPDM in Douala, and questioned why they could not be given even the position of deputy city mayor.

After his official installation March 10th 2020, the Mayor of the City of Douala has appointed members of his government in the city of Douala.

Roger Mbassa Dine, in what has been described as an inclusive government, appointed among others, members of the opposition to different commissions to assist him run Douala.

Some of the opposition figures include Serge Espoir Matomba of PURS appointed to the Youth, Culture, Solidarity, Sports and Leisure commission, as well as Carlos Nguallem of the SDF, appointed to the Health, Environment and the Sustainable Development Commission.
