Trump says U.S. overwhelmed by illegal immigration from Africa during exchange with Elon Musk

In a recent discussion with billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk on the social media platform X, former President and current Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump made sweeping claims about illegal immigration in the United States. Trump asserted that the country is facing an overwhelming influx of illegal immigrants from Africa, Asia, and the Middle East.

“I believe over 20 million people came to America illegally,” Trump claimed during the conversation. His statements reflect a broad and critical stance on immigration, characterizing many immigrants as problematic and describing their impact on the U.S. negatively.

“These are rough people coming into the country, and we do not want them here,” Trump said, adding that many of these individuals are “non-productive people who do not want to work.” He further criticized the situation by suggesting that other countries are using the U.S. as a dumping ground for their “bad, brutal, and non-productive people.”

Trump’s remarks have sparked considerable debate about the accuracy of his numbers and the implications of his rhetoric. Critics argue that such generalizations may not reflect the complex realities of immigration and could contribute to harmful stereotypes. Supporters, however, view his statements as a stark critique of current immigration policies and a call for stricter enforcement.

Trump Slams Kamala Harris

Trump criticized Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris, particularly over her handling of border issues. Trump slammed Harris, alleging she had failed to take decisive action on immigration.

“She’s saying she was strong on the border. ‘We’re going to be strong.’ Well, she doesn’t have to say [it]; she could close it up right now. … They could do things right now. It’s horrible,” Trump stated.

Trump’s critique comes despite his previous actions, including instructing GOP House members to block a comprehensive immigration bill authored by GOP Senator James Lankford of Oklahoma.

Trump also reiterated a baseless claim that President Biden’s potential withdrawal from the race would constitute a “coup.”

Trump continued to disparage Harris, referring to her recent TIME magazine cover and comparing her appearance to his wife, Melania Trump. He accused the media of giving Harris a makeover, saying, “She is terrible. She’s terrible, but she’s getting a free ride. I saw a picture of her on TIME magazine today. She looks like the most beautiful actress ever to live. It was a drawing and actually looked very much like our great first lady, Melania … She didn’t look like Kamala,” Trump told Musk, mispronouncing Harris’s name.

The conversation concluded with Trump praising Musk for the large audience of their chat, which peaked at around 1.3 million listeners. Musk, reaffirming his support for Trump, stated, “I think we’re in massive trouble, frankly, with a Kamala administration, and that’s my honest opinion. I think, really, it’s essential that you win for the good of the country this election.”
