Two bandits burned to death for attempting to steal motorbike

Two suspected bandits were burned beyond recognition in Bocom Brazzaville, Douala, on the morning of September 13, 2024, after allegedly attempting to steal a motorbike. Douala, Cameroon’s commercial hub, has long struggled with issues of banditry despite recent security measures put in place by authorities earlier this year.

“This kind of incident is not uncommon in the city,” a source on the scene explained. “They attempted to steal a motorbike. There were three of them—one managed to escape, but the other two were burned to death.”

The identities of the deceased bandits remain unknown, while the third individual involved is still at large.

“I arrived there while they were already burnt beyond identification,” our source said, adding “I don’t know if they are boys from the same area or they came from somewhere else. I was on my way to work when I came across the incident.”

With the country’s election scheduled for 2025, the level of insecurity is at an all-time high.
