Two staff members of the Cameroon Baptist Convention Health Services (CBC HS) drowned at the Bamendjing Dam this Friday.

Fonyuy Albert, aged about 30, and Ngala Clifford, 35, lost their lives after their dug-out canoe capsized.

According to eyewitnesses, the two men were accompanied by two others, both indigenes of Bangolan, who managed to swim to safety.

Fonyuy, an indigene of Kitiwum in Bui Division, and Ngala, from Ndu in Donga Mantung, were less fortunate.

Neither could swim, and neither was wearing a life jacket at the time of the accident.

Local sources revealed that the deceased headed to a fertile island across the dam, a journey they undertook multiple times; unfortunately, this routine venture ended tragically.

Ngala Clifford, who worked as a security guard at the health center, leaves behind a grieving wife and four children, the youngest Mimi Mefo Info gathered is just two months old.

People cherished Fonyuy Albert, a pharmacy assistant, both personally and professionally.

They both served at the Bangolan Baptist Health Centre.

The remains of the two men have been recovered and are now at the Shisong Catholic Hospital morgue in Kumbo.

At press time, the Cameroon Baptist Convention (CBC) Health Services had yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident.

David Atangana contributed to this report.
