Two taxis were destroyed in an alleged arson attack at the hospital roundabout in Bamenda this evening. Following a bout of intense gunfire in the vicinity, fear and chaos gripped the local community, resulting in the evacuation of the nearby market.
The attack occurred in the midst of the ongoing Anglophone crisis, characterised by a surge in violence in recent months. Ambazonia separatists have escalated their efforts to influence taxis, urging them to transition from yellow to blue and white in colour. This latest incident is thought to be connected to the ongoing conflict.
Local authorities have not yet released an official statement regarding the attack. Residents voiced their concerns and unease as the situation continues to be unpredictable. As the investigation continues, there is a growing concern for the safety of civilians who find themselves in the midst of the conflict.
We will keep a close eye on the situation and keep you informed with any new information that arises.
