Two-year-old girl drowns in well in Kumba

A two-year-old girl whose name MMI got only as Daisy has drowned in a well in Kumba, Meme division of the South West region. Daisy is said to have drowned Thursday May 5 while taking a bath with a neighbour’s child.

“Mamayo” as she was fondly refered to is said to have followed a neighbour’s child identified as Mildred who was going to be given a bath.

Hurriedly, she went to join Mildred so they could be bathed together. Daisy is said to have in the process slipped into a well a distance away from where she was supposed to be given a bathe alongside Mildred.

According to the the mother to Mildred, the latter rushed to her shouting “Mamayo has drowned! Mamayo has drowned”. Arriving the scene, they only saw Daisy’s slippers floating inside in the well.

The corpse of the child was later removed by her elder brother and later buried. The incident comes days after an aged man whom acquaintances identified only as Pa Stephen was discovered dead in a bush in the same town.
