UB graduation turnout drops as insecurity persists

The University of Buea yesterday sent out its most recent batch of graduates into the job market. Coming against the backdrop of security challenges, the ceremony unlike in previous years witnessed a drop in attendance.

Unlike in previous times, the usual ambiance that always marked the end of year event was lacking, with many students even scared of putting in their robes in the quarters.

“I am not even celebrating today back I’m the quarter because none of my neighbors knows I’m still schooling. My security matters” a graduating student told MMI.

A number of University of Buea students it should be recalled had been victims of the security situation in the South West region when they were kidnapped, detained and tortured by Ambazonian fighters.

Originally set for today but later moved to December 13 (Friday), the decision also met with a lot of mixed reactions.

The graduation of the University’s 23rd batch saw 3.500 students sent out to the field.
