UB Receives New Cars, Simulators to Kickstart International Driving School

Cameroon’s prominent Anglo-Saxon institution, the University of Buea (UB) says it is set to launch its long-awaited international driving school after receiving a consignment of new cars and simulators meant to train “safe and proficient drivers.”

The equipment was delivered by Mr. Hugo Diwane, Representative of the French company Codes Rousseau, UB’s technical partner for the driver training programme.

The equipment was received by Prof Michael Ekonde Sone, Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Teaching, and Eneke Agbor Bechem, Registrar of the University.

This development follows a partnership deal signed on June 11, 2024, between UB and Codes Rousseau to establish the UB Driving School.

The school will train drivers across all categories and issue international driving licenses.

Beyond training, the school will also include an automobile repair department and offer roadworthiness checks for vehicles.

To finalize operations, UB’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof Ngomo Horace Manga, on Tuesday, April 8, led a high-level virtual meeting with the CEO of Codes Rousseau, Fretay Oliver.

The driving school will be hosted at the University of Buea’s main campus in Molyko, precisely at the Cultural Village, where both classrooms and a simulation room have already been prepared.

The University had first announced plans to set up a driving school about three years ago.

The university’s hierarchy had noted that the driving school is part of efforts to professionalize education at UB and create an additional revenue stream.

On December 22, 2023, UB secured official authorization from the Ministry of Transport to run the school.

Transport Minister Jean Massena Ngalle Bibehe said that the institution is expected to train more than 30,000 drivers and issue licenses under Categories A, B, C, D, E, and G.
