UBa student government denies exorbitant platform charges claim

The Presidents of all 12 establishments of the University of Bamenda have denied claims by their fellow students that the university collects “exorbitant” online platform charges.

In a communiqué signed today by Faculties and Schools Students’ Association leaders, they describe this claim as “unfounded rumors”, “misinformation… circulating on social media”.

The communiqué further states that for each academic year, there is a platform charge of 1000frs paid by students for the use of the online portal to pay their fees and register courses.

Examination results are also available on this platform requiring students to pay 500frs to “unlimitedly view and download their end-of-semester results”, which is optional.

For those who do not want to get their results using the platform, results are always made available at the level of each department for students free of charge, the document explains.

They hold in this communiqué that “The University of Bamenda is a school with rules and regulations”, with “…a calendar which it follows”.

For students who failed to meet up with course registration deadline of February 25, 2021, they had to pay a penalty of 5000frs to register their semester courses post-deadline.

To them, students of the university ignorant of these developments are “…naive or misinformed”.

On this premise, the Students’ Association leaders dissociate themselves from students’ claim of ‘exorbitant’ financial charges while calling on their peers to be responsible, seek the right information from appropriate administrative quarters, and respect deadlines.
