British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has tested positive for the novel coronavirus.
Boris Johnson in a viral social media outing has said he is self-isolating as a result.
Johnson also shared a video message in which he once again urged Britons to “stay at home” in order to stop the spread of the virus.
“Over the last 24 hours I have developed mild symptoms and tested positive for coronavirus.
I am now self-isolating, but I will continue to lead the government’s response via video-conference as we fight this virus, ” he says concluding that “together we will beat this”.
The humanitarian costs of the coronavirus outbreak continue to mount, with more than 543,000 people infected globally. The number of people confirmed to have died as a result of the virus has now surpassed 24,600.
The virus’s proliferation has been declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization, meaning it is spreading rapidly in different parts of the world. More than 180 countries have confirmed cases so far.
